Donna May Barlow died on April 22, 2022 in Bozeman, Montana, at the age of 85.
She was born in Glasgow, Montana on July 12, 1936, to parents Ralph J and Cora Brenden Taylor. She grew up the eldest of three children and graduated from Glasgow High School. On July 22, 1956, she married Norman E. Witherby in Haver, Montana. While living in Haver, their eldest daughter, Cheryl, was born in 1958. Two years later, the young family later moved to White Sulfur Springs, where their second daughter, Marlis, was born in 1962. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Great Falls Their son, White, was born in 1964.
The family was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Great Falls, where Norman and Donna led a high school youth group for several years and were active in the Mariners Club. Donna has also worked as a Sunday School Supervisor for several years. Donna has an artistic talent, and for many years has created beautiful cakes for weddings, birthdays and special occasions in and around the Great Falls area.
Norman and Donna divorced in 1974 and Donna later married Walter El Barlow on June 21, 1975.
Donna worked as an electrician for Cascade Electric for several years in the mid-to-late 1970s. She opened her own electrical contracting company, ARQ Electric, but closed it shortly after her son’s death in 1988.
Walter and Donna enjoyed traveling all over the United States, including Hawaii and the Caribbean. After Walter’s death in 1997, Donna began traveling the world. made trips to the Azores and Portugal; Israel, Egypt and Jordan; Peru, Ecuador, and the Galapagos; Thailand, Burma, Vietnam and Laos.
Donna loved animals, especially dogs, so after seeing the world, she went to work as an office manager for an animal medical clinic. I retired in 2017 due to complications of aphasia. In July of 2021, her family moved her from Great Falls to The Springs Living Memory Care in Bozeman. The family would like to thank the care staff at Steps by Step at The Springs and the Incompass Hospitality team for their assistance with Mum over the past few months.
Donna’s death was preceded by her parents; Husband, Walter L. Barlow; Jr., White W. Weatherby; Brother, R.; Duane Taylor; and her sister Marilyn (Taylor Moran) Burgmeier. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Darby) Minnick of Bozeman and Marilys (Bruce) Flowers of Havre. descendants of Nathan Minnick of Bozeman; Ethan Flathers of Joplin, Missouri; and Evan Flowers of Spokane, Washington; granddaughter of Natalie (Mike) Hickson of Bozeman; Their great-granddaughters, Enya Hickson, Sky Hickson, Shay Hickson, and Estella Minnick, are all from Bozeman.
At Donna’s request, there will be no memorial service. Memorials can be made to the National Aphasia Association (aphasia.org) or to a charitable organization of one’s choice.
