Overwatch 2 release date rumors, trailers, characters, and more

When will Overwatch 2 be released? As the Overwatch 2 beta release date has come and gone, and the OWL 2022 season features an early version of the game, expectations are unlikely to rise over the follow-up to the 2016 blockbuster shooter Blizzard.

With new story and hero missions expanding on the game’s narrative universe, Overwatch 2’s new PvE offerings are set to build on classic PvP modes to create the ultimate (potentially free) package for fans and newcomers alike. While original Overwatch players will have access to engine upgrades, heroes, and maps coming along with the PvP side of the game, those looking to team up with friends for campaign missions and participate in all-new character customization systems will be eager to upgrade to the new game as soon as it launches.

Add that to the mix and with the improvements revealed to some of the top heroes (most of them sitting at the top of our Overwatch list of levels), it’s no surprise that players can’t wait to get their hands on the game. So, without further ado, here’s everything we know about Overwatch 2 release dateincluding characters, the latest gameplay, and more.

Overwatch 2 release date speculation

Unfortunately We don’t have an Overwatch 2 release date yetbut is likely to decline in early 2023.

Blizzard has confirmed that it’s unlikely to be released on consoles and PC this year. Speaking on a call with investors in November 2021, Danielle Allegri, chief operating officer of Activision Blizzard, said Overwatch 2’s development will take longer than anticipated.

When you add the fact that Microsoft plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, we may see more turmoil until that deal closes in mid-2023.

However, while discussing changes such as improving Overwatch 2’s wait times, the Overwatch development team revealed a commitment to more regular communications as we approach the release date, so be sure to check back regularly for updates.

Overwatch platforms 2

Overwatch 2 is set for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, as of the game’s latest trailer.

There is a possibility that this could change if the game is released after Microsoft closes Activision Blizzard in mid-2023 as Microsoft will decide where to release the game.

However, the publisher has stuck to existing contracts in the past, and since Overwatch 2 crossplay is a consistent desire of gamers, the game will likely still be available on a variety of platforms.

Overwatch 2 trailers

We’ve seen a fair amount of Overwatch 2 in the trailers and gameplay demos. After it was revealed, a three-minute game trailer, which you can watch below, featured the game’s story and hero missions, which you can play over and over with friends in co-op mode.

All of our favorite characters from the original game are set to return for the sequel, and it’s been revealed that all of the heroes are set to get a new look, with many of them also expected to receive significant tweaks to their abilities. Since the beta release, we’ve seen revealed reworks of characters like Doomfist, who transitioned into the role of a tank, and Orisa, who traded her shielding abilities for a spear.

We also had a chance to see our first new hero, Sojourn, in action. A devastating heroine equipped with a deadly electromagnetic cannon, you can learn how best to master her abilities by reading our Sojourn guide.
